Keep the PDF when layout matters

A PDF preserves pages, diagrams and line breaks. Apple’s iPhone guide explains that PDFs can be opened, saved, marked up, shared and printed in the Books app. For forms, visual reports, comics or anything cited by page number, the PDF is usually the honest choice.

Convert when you want text to reflow

On a small screen, a text-heavy PDF often requires constant pinching and horizontal movement. EPUB can reflow paragraphs to the screen width and work with reader font settings. This is most useful for novels, essays and simple reports.

The tradeoff is structure. A multi-column PDF, scan, chart-heavy report or complex textbook can produce the wrong reading order. MyEbook does not add OCR to image-only PDFs.

A quick decision test

  • Keep PDF: page accuracy, markup, figures and original layout are important.
  • Try EPUB: the file is mostly selectable, single-column text and you want adjustable reading.
  • Use OCR first: the page is an image and text cannot be selected.

How to test the conversion

  1. Use a copy of the source document.
  2. Run the PDF-to-EPUB converter.
  3. Open the result in an ebook reader and enlarge the font.
  4. Check headings, lists, images and the order of several pages.
